Health Care Reform Bill Passes

HealthCare.gov: Take health care into your own hands Learn More
March 22, 2010
Monumental legislation has been passed in The House of Representatives that opens the door to care for millions of Americans, and mandates that insurers be more transparent and accountable to the American people.  This bill represents a path not taken for decades, and it will make all the difference if we allow it to.

ResponsiCare stands with, and supports our President and the elected leaders who posessed the credibility and character in the face of astounding public scrutiny to make the only right decision: to do something, even if imperfect.  We in the health care trenches have spoken to many about reform.  Those scorned by this historic legislation, now live in fear; fear that they will lose what they deserve or have earned.  This fear is unfounded.

This is not about the distractions promulgated by those opposing the current legislation.  This is not about abortion.  This is not about rationing care.  It is about mitigating anaplastic health care costs, increasing quality, preventing disease, and assisting the disenfranchised in becoming healthy, productive members of our society.  This is a clear victory for all Americans that should not be tainted by partisan politics.  The process has been carefully constructed and rightfully applied.  The people have collectively spoken.  They spoke during the last election, and they speak today.  We, as an organization and as providers of care, will continue to speak for all of the patients that fall through the cracks, the people who don't matter to the folks at the country club, the poverty-stricken and damaged who can't afford to live in perfectly manicured neighborhoods, the good people that have been silenced by racism and discrimination-the people that were too frail to speak loudly enough for some of their leaders to hear them. Today their voices have been heard, and they have stirred the consiousness of a nation.

As we take the first, teetering steps on this journey, we must always be mindful that, with each passing day, our walk will become more confident and deliberate, and our distant goals, those that affect our future generations, will be realized sooner if we proceed in a spirit of unity and cooperation.  We challenge our patients, colleagues, and elected leaders to embrace this amazing opportunity, and to work diligently within its framework to help current and future generations thrive in a country free of barriers to affordable, quality health care for everyone.
