Our Laboratory Services
ResponsiCareSM offers the convenience of an in-house laboratory. Since most routine tests can be drawn or completed at our clinic during your visit, many results are rapidly available. This often allows for more efficient diagnosis, faster treatment, and eliminates the need to travel to another facility to have your lab work completed. Our reference tests are performed at Quest Diagnostics®, a nationally respected reference laboratory offering the full spectrum of routine and complex studies. Since our computer system directly interfaces with Quest®, your results are automatically downloaded into your personal medical record. We are also able to more carefully track trends in your laboratory parameters, allowing us to follow your medical conditions with greater detail and accuracy.
Test Result Notification
Our clinic will notify you of any abnormal or significant results. However, we may not notify you if your tests are normal or if no specific follow-up is needed. In the event of an abnormal lab test or other study, you will be notified as soon as possible regarding the appropriate course of action as directed by your physician. You are always welcome to call our office if you would like a copy of your results or if you have further inquiries.
Medication Refills
Refilling non-controlled, routine medications can typically be accomplished over the phone, provided that the patient has been recently seen or has had an ongoing relationship with our clinic. This can be done by calling our main number and choosing the appropriate option from our menu. You will be notified by phone when your prescription has been called in or is ready to pick up. PLEASE NOTE: Any requests for refills made after 3:30 pm may not be available until the next business day, so please plan accordingly, especially if you run out of your medication before a weekend or holiday. Due to liability issues, the physician reserves the right to refuse to refill medications on a case-by-case basis depending on the circumstances, and may require you to make an office visit prior to authorizing a refill. We may not refill controlled or narcotic medications by phone.
Calling In New Medications
Due to liability issues, and consistent with responsible medical care, it is our general policy to not call in medications for a new problem without the patient being seen and examined first. The physician reserves the right to deviate from this policy on a case-by-case basis, however, depending on the unique clinical situation. Narcotic pain medications and other controlled substances will not be called in after normal business hours. There will be no exceptions to this policy.
Hospital Services
Although Dr. Anderson has privileges at both Decatur General Hospital and Parkway Medical Center, ResponsiCareSM Clinic provides primarily outpatient services. In order to provide the highest quality of care in the outpatient setting, Dr. Anderson often utilizes Hospitalists (doctors specially trained to care for hospitalized patients) to admit and follow hospitalized patients. Dr. Anderson is kept informed about your hospital stay by the Hospitalist during and after your hospitalization. Studies show that Hospitalists provide very competent care, and their efficiency and clinical outcomes may even be superior to the traditional model of care you may be familiar with. The vast majority of care delivered to our patients will be in the outpatient setting, and more and more primary care physicians are utilizing Hospitalists to care for their patients. Your quality of life is our number one goal, and that means it is more important for us to focus on keeping you OUT of the hospital! Thankfully, we’re good at it. In fact, feedback from our insurers has shown that our hospitalization rates are low compared to our peers.
